Re-thinking performance reviews with your customer at the centre

The business problem I want to support people to solve is to remove negative impact of outdated performance reviews and challenge people to ditch ‘best practice’ and think differently to support their unique businesses

The time we invest to run the process, impact to productivity, impact to employee experience, plus mixed intent and outcomes are likely having a detrimental effect on your internal customers – the business you work for and the people you serve within that business.

  • Understand your customer(s) and their needs by gathering insights and data
  • Understand the problem you are trying to solve
  • Check for shared intent
  • Be clear on who its for (hint, its not HR)
  • Design together and iterate

Key Learnings

  1. Consider your customers and the cost, how might you make this investment generate value
  2. Find the mutual value and involve people
  3. One size doesn’t fit most

About Holly

Holly Gibson is Head of People and Capability at Dynamic Controls, supporting teams across Asia and Europe and NZ who design, manufacture and sell motors and controllers for power wheelchairs and mobility scooters, with the vision of enhancing the lives of people with a disability.

Holly has worked in HR and leadership roles across a range of industries from hospitality, tourism and manufacturing to construction and public service. Her passion is for re-imagining workplaces as communities and designing employee experiences with people to provide them agency in their work. She has a knack for complexity busting and process improvement and believes there are always better ways to do things, you just need to ask the right questions from your teams and involve them in creating solutions.

Holly’s big goal for 2024 was to conquer her fear of public speaking and she was all set to do that in March at Disrupt HR, but ended up with bronchitis and unable to travel. This opportunity is her second chance to meet that goal head on and tackle presenting today.
